Because of the high protein level, Spirulina is a good substitue for eating meat. The protein level in Spirulina is even 60% higher than the protein level in soybeans.

While travelling

  • Keeps you alert longer behind the wheel
  • Enhances concentration
  • Better recovery following a long journey or flight (jetlag)

500 years ago the Aztecs used Spirulina on their long treks through the mountains. Nowadays Spirulina is ideal when you are driving in heavy traffic. The algae keep you fresh and alert behind the wheel and increase your powers of concentration. Beta-carotene (an important constituent of Spirulina) is required to enable you to see well in the dark; that helps you if you have to drive at night. And are you dreading that long flight to your holiday destination? Use Spirulina and you feel fitter and you have fewer problems with jetlag.

Children

Rapid childhood growth results in increased protein requirements. Spirulina is a powerful vegetable protein source that contains all the essential amino acids in a balanced combination. Children are often fussy about eating fresh fruit and vegetables, resulting in unhealthily low levels of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.  Spirulina provides a good source of antioxidants (carotenoids, vitamin E, phycocyanin, and super oxide dismutase), vitamins (provitamin A, vitamin B12, vitamin K) and several minerals.

In a crèche or classroom environment, young children often spread colds and flu. Spirulina has shown to strengthen the immune system1,2,3,4, improve resistance and reduce the occurrence of lingering respiratory infections. Spirulina is a proven, safe5, nature-based food supplement that is ideal for children.

Teenagers

Teenagers are notoriously bad eaters, prone to junk food binges and excessive carbohydrate intake.  Their food habits seldom meet the physical requirements of a teenage lifestyle, particularly for teenagers who play a lot of sport. Menstruating girls often suffer from iron deficiencies. Spirulina contains high amounts of bioavailable iron, shown to be easily absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract6.  It has also been proven that Spirulina may combat iron-deficiency anemia in anemic adolescent girls7 by improving hemoglobin levels.

Men

Spirulina is a known source of B-complex vitamins, and as such assists in reducing stress levels or anxiety. Spirulina is especially rich in bio-active vitamin B12, a vitamin that promotes brain health13 and helps ward off feelings of depression14.

Since Spirulina helps control cholesterol levels15,16 and is high in vasoprotective antioxidants like carotenoids and vitamin E , it is effective in promoting healthy circulation.

Elderly/retired

Seniors often have a weaker digestive system with a diminished absorption function. Spirulina has a soft cell wall and is easily digested for optimal nutrient absorption. Spirulina helps prevent an age-related decrease in immunity and red blood cell count17.

It is abundant in antioxidants like carotenoids, super oxide dismutase (SOD) and phycocyanin which may assist in warding off premature aging. In particular, SOD protects cells from toxic, reactive oxygen species and may be credited in slowing down age-related degeneration18.

Energy dip?

Do you have a problem with an energy dip halfway through the afternoon? Well – instead of eating chocolate – try taking a few Spirulina tablets. Your energy level will soon return to normal and you will quickly be back in form!

Natural slimming aid

A few kilos overweight? Spirulina can help you gain and keep control of your weight and you will not have to resort to artificial remedies. You get natural nutrients in a concentrated form without any excess calories, which means you will be healthy and less likely to suffer from pangs of hunger. Furthermore, you will be much more likely to stick to a diet, if you do not feel tired or listless!

Pets

  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Increases stamina and condition
  • Gives a shiny coat

Pets can also benefit a great deal from Spirulina. Cat and dog fur gets a healthy sheen, their physical condition improves and so does their breath.

Puppies grow better, are healthier and have an improved immune system. Most animals love the tablets so do not leave the bottle around open as they will probably eat the lot! Pet birds such as canaries breed better and look healthier. Plumage quality improves and the carotenes in Spirulina ensure that the colors are beautifully bright. Japanese Koi carp also gain improved colour from Spirulina which makes them more valuable. Spirulina is also used by fish breeders to keep fish healthy.

Spirulina gives horses a nice, shiny coat and a stable immune system. Racehorse owners report improved performance and more rapid recovery, the same results human athletes report. The regular use of Spirulina also has a positive effect on animal fertility. See the instructions for use for dosages.

Why Spirulina boosts your energy level

As an easily digested and absorbed complete and balanced nutrient source, Spirulina offers effective compensation for dietary deficiencies. Thanks to an abundance of bioavailable iron, Spirulina helps combat iron-deficiency anemia in anemic adolescent girls1 and women2, by improving hemoglobin levels in the red blood cells that transport oxygen. Iron is also necessary for energy yielding metabolism3. Spirulina also offers an effective source of bio-active vitamin B12 and manganese, two nutrients that contribute to a normal energy yielding metabolism4, 5.

Spirulina also boosts energy levels through detoxifying the body and protecting against environmental and other toxins.

In several animal studies, it is shown that Spirulina helps protect against the harmful effects of toxins at the level of the liver6, the heart7, the kidneys8 and the genes9. Substances in Spirulina that help detoxify the body are chlorophyll, the antioxidant phycocyanin and N-acetylcysteine, a precursor of the strong detoxifier glutathione.

Increased exposure to, and excessive production of free radicals can sap our energy levels because these aggressive substances constantly attack important body components like proteins and DNA. Spirulina is an effective way to fight free radicals due to its high potency antioxidants.

Spirulina is particularly rich in carotenoids like beta carotene and zeaxanthin, in the antioxidant enzyme SOD (superoxide dismutase) and phycocyanin. In numerous scientific studies, Spirulina has proven its antioxidant properties. One of the key ingredients of Spirulina, the blue pigment phyocyanin, is a potent free radical scavenger, which inhibits peroxidation of lipids10. Spirulina is also rich in the antioxidant enzyme SOD, a substance that is considered to be one of the most important antioxidant enzymes11. And last but not least: Spirulina is nature’s richest source of vitamin A in the form of beta carotene and zeaxanthin. Vitamin A is a vital antioxidant that is considered key in fighting tissue-damage caused by free radicals12.

It is well known that regular consumption of fast food, fast-paced lifestyles, high stress levels and living in a polluted environment can lead to over-acidified body cells, blood and tissues. One of the consequences of this acidification is energy loss and fatigue. Spirulina is grown in particularly alkaline conditions and is an alkaline nutrient source that can help combat acidification and improve vitality.

Spirulina is an unusually rich source of various pigments. The green pigment chlorophyll, the blue pigment phycocyanin, the orange or red carotenoids and the yellow pigment zeaxanthin all contribute to the fact that Spirulina is able to capture large quantities of sun energy. It is high in so-called “bio photons” (much more so in fact than sun ripened fruit) and in this way increases the energy level of a consumer who uses it regularly.
